A collection of personal diaries recording the daily activities of the author as well as significant family events. The diaries record the daily weather, important current events, financial information about the author and other information on a daily basis. Each year is divided into a summary section, which lists important events of the year. The summary is then followed by a daily record of activities, which includes the time Pettijohn woke up each day; where he ate his meals; activities he and his family had and even whether he had car trouble or not. The diaries also evidence Pettijohn's devout Catholicism by recording the dates of each of his communions and confessions. The diaries begin when Pettijohn was a boy of 14 and continue to the present day. They provide a detailed description of a single man's life in New York State.

Lawyer. Pettijohn was born in New York, N.Y. He was the son of a lawyer and the god son of noted motion picture producer David O. Selznick. He grew up in Rye, N.Y. and eventually became a lawyer with the New York State Attorney General's Office. He also operated a private law practice. Pettijohn currently lives in the Albany, N.Y. area.
